Comparing Inspectors? You'll Want To Know This...

Certification with NACHI requires an entrance exam to become a member.  Other major home inspection organizations do not require an entrance examination at all!  That means you may be getting an inspector with very little experience or knowledge of the inspection industry.  Anyone can be a member of any of the other major home inspection organizations as long as they pay their fees.  They're called "candidate" members by some organizations.  So be careful.

Here Are The Real Facts About Home Inspection Certification...

National Testing Statistics for NACHI Entrance Exam
Total Number of Exams Taken: 4656 (100%)
Total Number of Exams Passed: 2207 (47.4%)
Total Number of Exams Failed: 2449 (52.6%)
Required Passing Grade: 75
Average Grade: 73.79
Average Passing Grade: 84.34
Average Failing Grade: 61.38

These stats are from the NACHI website on August 17th, 2004.  It's possible those who didn't pass are members in good standing with the other organizations. That's a little scary isn't it?
